Marrakesh + Las Palmas

Here some insights in my journey with Indi !

Indi (green haired elf) + myself decided to take ourselves on a trip to Morocco - to the city Marrakesh and to the Spanish beach of Las Palmas on Gran Canaria. We had 5 days each to explore.

Marrakesh is such a vibrant place to be which is split in contrasts of life. It is an eastern and western frontier town, both Arab and African, very religious. The city is formed of the old town, the Medina, and the new town in which we got to see beautiful architecture like the Bahia Palace. We stayed in a wonderful moroccan Rhiad in the old town which had a swimming pool. A cool down during the day was very needed as the temperature climbed up to 50 degrees. We sat by the pool having mint tea, went back out for delicious Tagine served to us on a little rooftop terrace + came back to watch the sun going down on over the sound of praying muslims.
During our trip to the Palmerie in the desert just outside Marrakesh we felt being roasted while riding camels - same thing when visiting the Ouzoud Falls which are the tallest in the whole of Africa. At least we got the chance to have a swim. Great fun also was to jump from around a 7 metre high cliff into a deep basin of the waterfall.

Marrakesh is a place where it is very easy to lose yourself - the Souks withs hundreds of market stalls selling a lot of kitsch want to lead to into directions. It is all about getting lost and finding yourself exploring! But an advice to you - if you decide to visit this magical place - please don't fall into the trap of following people - they will ask you for money. Especially my little elf was an eye sight to everyone so we learned to stay just with us. The city is a very demanding place to visit but so worth it. All the colours and market stalls etc  fully inspired me and I would love another visit.

Las Palmas as our next stop was meant to be more of a chill out spot before going back to busy London. We were relaxing and drinking wine in our little house boat we rented for some days. The beach breeze was super nice after the heat. It was good to not constantly being looked at. We did the right choice to come to the beach after being fully culturally inspired in Marrakesh.
Rather annoying though was not being able able to change into new clothes for about 2 full days as our luggage didn't make the flight. Fully relieved we had our clothes back and jumped into the sea. 5 days was a fine amount to spend there - the culture is really missing when you came from the seemingly other side of the world. Actually only 3 hours away via sky. :~~~~~)
